1. Friday night I went to see the Guns n' Roses tribute band Appetite for Destruction at BB King's. I was curious to see how they compared to Mr. Brownstone, the other GNR tribute band I've seen a bunch of times (sadly). There was quite a crowd on hand, really long lines outside and I was lucky to get tickets (thanks Fox). Once we got inside though it was hard to see what all the fuss was about. Musically the band was pretty good but they didn't have the same theatricality and youthful exuberance of Brownstone. Also, I think the name Appetite for Destruction is a pun on the fact that they all weigh about 30 pounds more than the GNR member they're supposed to represent. Still, fun concert.
2. Saturday I went to Atlantic City for the day with my brother and my friend Shmag. Managed to have fun even though we all lost money playing poker, and I lost the plastic bag that was holding the books my brother and I brought for the bus, AND I lost my return ticket for the bus and had to buy another one-way ticket. So when I say I lost everything in Atlantic City, I really lost everything. Managed to get quite a bit of poker in though, plus strolled the boardwalk in nice weather and had some good food at the Taj.
3. Finally saw "Crash" last night and I thought it was just okay. Interesting since most people seem to either love it or hate it. I thought some of the stories - the Mexican locksmith, Ludacris, Matt Dillon - were interesting and well-acted and others - Thandie Newton/Terrence Howard, Sandra Bullock - were hokey and not well-developed. Also it ended very abruptly. Still haven't seen "Brokeback" - will hopefully see it at some point but for the time being I want to keep my streak going of only seeing movies that star Terrence Howard and Ludacris (by the way, I really liked "Hustle and Flow", even though I know it was corny).
Also, did you hear Don Cheadle is starting a rap career? His name is going to be Incredulus.
