THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I think the best thing about being unemployed is that you get to watch other unemployed people on The Price is Right. My favorite part of the show is when the people in “Contestants’ Row” try to guess the closest price to the items up for bid without going over. I love it when somebody spends five minutes asking the audience what to bid, and then the next person just outbids them by $1. There’s no other game show like that, where you can win just by being a jerk. One time I was watching the show and some woman bid $850. Then the next guy shouted out excitedly, “$849!” That guy was either the biggest idiot ever to appear on the show, or just really confident in his pricing abilities. That’s the thing about the show though – nobody has any idea what they’re doing. There’s just something about being on that stage that makes people incapable of making their own decisions. That’s why when Bob Barker asks, “Doug, do you think this Ford Focus costs more or less than $250?”, Doug always turns to the audience and asks, “What do I do?”
