THANKS: Well, I asked
for Shout Outs and I got a record 9 (though that includes one from me
and one that was accidentally entered twice.) Thanks to those of you
who obliged. To everyone else, hope to hear from you some time soon.
TRANSITIONS: Sad news for classic TV fans -
Fred "Rerun" Berry has passed away.
Unfortunately there is a hole in my pop culture knowledge when it comes
to "What's Happening?" so I am unable to make a tasteless joke about
his death involving some catchphrase from the show. If anyone has any
suggestions on the matter feel free to share them. In the meantime if
Jason Hervey, the guy who played Buzz on Blossom, or Captain Noah
passes away, I will be ready to rock your asses with some hilariously
wrong one-liners. Plus,
according to this article, Pam Anderson seems to think she only has a decade or so left so maybe I should get started on those jokes as well.
TEACHERS: Plenty of great stuff on Metajournalism today. First off, I can't believe I didn't know previously about ratemyteacher.com.
The site allows you to go back and rate your old high school teachers
and write comments about them. Right now the site consists mostly of
boring, helpful information - they seem to have a pretty strict
censorship policy. Over the next few days I plan to unleash an all-out
subversive assault on the site, hopefully in such a way that I will not
be caught but that the site will be rendered completely useless. I
haven't yet figured out exactly how I'm going to do this but I will
definitely let you know what happens.
I CAN'T THINK OF AN APPROPRIATE HEADING THAT BEGINS WITH T: Also from Metajournalism, this is the list of
organizations, companies, and celebrities that the National Rifle
Association urges its members to boycott because of their anti-gun
stances. Here are some of my favorites:
National Safe Kids Campaign - I don't know what the National Safe Kids
Campaign does, but I can't imagine that many NRA members are
considering volunteering.
Richard Dean Anderson - TV's MacGyver. Apparently knowing how to make
your own gun out of a pipe cleaner and a can of Cheez Whiz does not
necessarily mean you think they should be legal.
Coalition to Stop Gun Violence - Actually, this is a misrepresentation.
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence actually has a strong pro-gun
violence policy, so I'm not sure why they're on this list.
Boys II Men - Pop Group - What a shame. I guess this means I won't be
buying their new album, with hits like "I'll Make Love to You, Again"
and "The Other End of the Road".
Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. - I guess this means you won't be
seeing "Bullets n' Fudge" in your grocer's freezer case any time soon.
TODAY: Keep those shout outs a-comin'!
