Thanks to everyone who is checking out
the site! On Thursday I started using www.sitemeter.com to keep track
of how many hits I am getting. On Thursday I got 7 hits, then yesterday
(Friday) I got 11. Considering that my original "buzz-building" e-mail
went out last weekend, I'm pretty excited that the traffic is actually
increasing. Must be word-of mouth. Also, thanks to those of you who
have sent e-mails with positive feedback - I really appreciate it.
I am working the late shift here at NBC again. Not much going on
tonight. Starting tomorrow they are cutting us down to six-hour shifts,
from 8pm-2am and 2am-8am. Almost doesn't make it worth screwing up my
body clock to make six measly hours' pay. But I can take some solace in
the fact that Daylight Savings Time falls during my shift tomorrow
night. Which means I'll be getting six hours' "pay" to do five hours
worth of "work". Score!
Thursday night before work I did have a chance to check out Demitri
Martin's one-man show, "If I...", which recently won the award for best
one-man show at the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen. For those of you who
are unfamilar with him, Demitri is a hilarious and very intelligent
stand-up comedian who was recently profiled in The New Yorker and who I
have seen live several times. It's hard to find a way that describes
the show that isn't totally cliched ("A rare look inside the mind of a
tortured genius"? That makes it sound like "A Beautiful Mind".), but
suffice it to say the show is both very funny and completely original.
There was also an interview with Demitri after the show which provided
a very insightful look into how the show was put together. Rather than
cursing his career for eternity, and make myself sound like a complete
jack-ass by saying something like, "Watch out for him, he's going to be
huge!", I'll just say that if you get a chance to see the show at some
point (I'm not sure if any future performances are planned), you should
definitely check it out.
Very excited about the Final Four games tomorrow night...I honestly
can't remember the last time I was still alive this late in my NCAA
tournament pool. This year I picked Texas to win it all, knowing that
most people would go with Arizona or Kentucky. Sure enough, the
Longhorns were the only 1 seed to make it to the Final Four, and I was
the only person out of 31 in the pool to pick them to win it all. So,
if they win it all, the $400 first prize is mine, right? Hold on there,
cowboy. It turns out my other picks were so pathetic (I had Illinois
and Wake Forest making it to the Final Four - neither one even made it
to the Sweet 16) that Texas could win it all and I could still not win
the pool, even though I'm the only person that picked them! Basically,
if they beat Marquette in the finals, I win the $400, but if they beat
Kansas in the finals I only win $50. Of course, if they lose tomorrow
(or in the championship game), I win nothing. So root for Texas and
Marquette tomorrow, then Texas in the final, because if I win the big
prize, it's Cristal and supermodels for everybody!
