Circle Gets the Square

In case you haven't heard, Peter Tomarken, the host of "Press Your Luck", died in a plane crash the other day. I was pretty upset when I heard the news, "Press Your Luck" was definitely one of my favorite game shows when I was growing up. And I was a huge game show fan. Whenever I was sick or would stay home from school for any reason, I would always spend the entire afternoon watching game shows on the USA Network. Two of my favorite game show memories:

1. On "The $25,000 Pyramid", any time the contestant couldn't finish the bonus round, and Dick Clark would come over, lean on the railing, and give one clue to the category they missed, and the person would get it right away. For instance, the celebrity would spend twenty seconds stammering, "A pie...an orange....um, A PIE!" and the person would have no idea. Then after it was over, Dick would go, "Let's try this...pizza." And the person would go, "Things you slice, of course!" And the celebrity would be thinking, "God I hate that guy."

2. The contestant intros on the game show "Scrabble". They always introduced the people by profession - "He's an accountant...she's a hairdresser!" In college, my friend Josh and I would always joke about how funny it would be if a contestant on the show was introduced as a provost: "He's a carpenter...she's a provost!" That always cracked us up for some reason.

Speaking of cracking up (nice segue) I'm doing two great shows at Rififi the next couple of nights - you should come check me out. For more info, click on "Schedule". Hope to see you out and about.
